Virginia has established a medical cannabis program to allow patient access to prescribed cannabis products.
In Virginia, possession of adult use cannabis is allowed, however retail sales for recreational use are still prohibited.
Virginia leverages a Prescription Monitoring Program to track prescription allotments and patient sales. Additionally, Virginia has established a patient registry with BioTrack, however registration within this patient registry is not mandatory.
In Virginia, patient allotments are set by prescription, and so a specific patient’s purchase limit may vary.
Overall, a patient may not purchase more than:
90 days supply of cannabis in a 90 day period
And
No more than 4 Oz. of botanical cannabis in a 30 day period.
Equivalencies
Virginia rules do not currently establish or codify any product type equivalencies.
Virginia’s cannabis rules do not create any cannabis specific taxes for medical patients.
